Inclusively designed short and medium-term accommodation

To keep you safe and cared for when you need it most.

Refresh & Reset With Short Term Accommodation

Previously known as respite care, short term accommodation (STA) refers to accommodation provided to NDIS participants for short periods in a residential house, unit, apartment or hotel.
It is most often with other people and includes your 24/7 support staff, meals, personal care in an accessible environment, and social activities where applicable. Think of it as your home away from home and a well-deserved break from everyday life.

Why would I want short term accommodation?

For some participants, STA gives them a change of scenery and a break away from daily life, leading to different experiences, opportunities, and meeting different people. This is something they look forward to and greatly enjoy.

For others, their carers or family may be on leave or unwell, meaning that their personal care, health and well-being isn’t interrupted in their new accommodation. Participants may also benefit from STA when they are waiting on home modifications, recovering from an illness, or are bridging a short gap after an unforeseen change in circumstances or event. Whatever your circumstances, we’re here to help keep you safe and place you in the best care.

Bridge The Gap In Style With

Medium Term Accommodation

While serving as an excellent place for you to relax, unwind and prepare for your next chapter, MTA, also known as transitional accommodation, helps you stay comfortable and well supported while preparing or waiting to move into your new accommodation.

You can use your MTA funding in circumstances like

  • You’ve got to move out of your current home, but your SDA home hasn’t finished being built or isn’t vacant yet
  • You’ve got to move out of your current home, but your SDA funding hasn’t finalised being approved
  • You’re currently at home with family, but circumstances have changed, and it’s not working anymore
  • You may be otherwise placed in an aged care facility
  • You’re currently in an aged care facility or a hospital but want to leave or are waiting for suitable accommodation to become available or your new SDA home to be ready
If you need to leave your current situation urgently and have MTA funding,

How do I find
short term and medium-term accommodation options?

Doing the research yourself, you’ll find various accommodation providers across Australia with plenty of different benefits. We know it can be hard to know what’s right for you and what it will be like, which is why participants trust us to help them find the best accommodation and support to suit their needs and their goals. Some of our participants want plenty of social activities, while others prefer a quiet and peaceful break. Whatever your goals, the National Disability Council has you covered.

MTA funding is similar to SDA funding – it covers the costs of the building you stay in, but not your supports or extras received during this time, including meals and carers.
